As I was changing little Owen into his pajamas last night, I thought I found a speck of fluff or dirt on his shoulder. I went to flick it away, and quickly discovered a nasty little tick had found a home on my baby’s shoulder.
Telling by the size of it, it was most likely a dog tick. I removed it myself with a pair of tweezers, but boy was he in there good. Owen wasn’t bothered by it too much until I started poking at him, at which point he started yelling “SPIDER!” Poor Owen.
I did call the pediatrician’s office and they told me that he’s most likely fine and to just keep an eye on it. You know the drill: bullseye, fever, chills. If a deer tick is on for 24 hours or more, then that’s more reason to worry. I’m pretty sure this “sucker” was a dog tick, or some other sort of “safe” one. But boy, are they disgusting. I had a serious case of the heebie-jeebies.
A little antiseptic and hydrogen peroxide and we’re good to go. Keep an eye on your little people, as Owen was only out on the driveway for a short time when this guy got him. Don’t forget the important mommy job at bath time ~ as Brad Paisley reminds us, “Let me check you for ticks.”
