Would you believe this? I met another mutha who loves her Chevy Traverse. She’s a mom from southeastern Massachusetts who’s got three little kids too! She’s guest posting today to tell us how the Chevy Traverse meets her family’s every need. Read on, my friends.
Go ahead, I can take it. Call me crazy. Call me insane. Call me ridiculous. I will admit it. The main reason my husband and I bought a crossover SUV was because I didn’t want to drive a minivan. Now listen, before you start defending your minivan and minivans of fellow parents you know, PLEASE know I have nothing against these owners. It’s just not for me.
I secretly felt I needed to drive as cool of a vehicle I could with three children in tow. What is wrong with me? I am a grown, educated woman with a (fairly) good head on my shoulders. Yet, I needed to drive a vehicle that didn’t scream “mom”. I needed a vehicle that I could take grocery shopping and also blend in with the crowd when my girls and I have all those crazy nights out in the city (although, after one year owning this car, THAT has yet to happen).
When it came time for a larger vehicle to fit our growing family, I knew what I wanted. The car had to fit the following criteria:
- Not a minivan
- Fit multiple car seats
- Needed to have second row captain’s chairs so we could walk in between those seats to get to the third row to strap in a child
- Needed to have a good amount of trunk space to fit groceries and/or a stroller
- Couldn’t break the bank
- Wasn’t a super-ginormous SUV that would be a pain to park in the downtown Boston
We checked out just about every car dealership in a 25 mile radius and started doing our comparison shopping. I was quick to point out the types of vehicles I didn’t like. In a way, finding the best vehicle for my family was almost like finding a soul mate – you don’t know what it is, but something about it just has to click. And that’s what happened when I met the Traverse.
The first dealership we hit was a Chevy dealership (seriously, it was). And the very first time I test drove a Traverse I knew it was the perfect car for us. Not only did it fit all of my criteria, but it drove well. I mean, real well. It was smooth. But since this was a vehicle purchase, we took some advice from the great Smokey Robinson that we “better shop around” to make sure this was going to be the car for us. And after a few weeks, we went back to the Chevy Traverse. What’s that silly, old saying? “If you love something, set it free. And if it comes back to you, then you know it was really for you all along?” Yep. That’s my Traverse. And when there was a black one available, I was sold.
It’s been a year now that my family has owned the Traverse and I still LOVE LOVE LOVE it. My favorite part is still the fact I can walk in between the second row captain’s chairs to get to the third row easily. You just can’t do that with other SUVs.
While the Traverse is great for our everyday family outings, I knew the real test would come when we did our first road trip. I must admit, I was a little nervous. Sure, I can take this car grocery shopping, to the mall, and even on a super shopping trip to the Wrentham Outlets. But could it withstand a family road trip – complete with all the kid-gear we needed? (And still have room for us?) The answer? Yes. The trunk was roomy enough for all of our bags, coolers, toys, child gear, and a week’s worth of diapers for three kids. How many crossover SUV’s can say that?
Just the Traverse.
I would rather walk than have to own a minivan! Glad to hear there are other sensible moms like me out there!
I could have written this post myself. I feel the exact same way about minivans. That’s why we went the smaller SUV route (RAV 4) but I’m sad to say that with two kids (and a large dog) we have outgrown it and will in the market for a new car/SUV early next year. I’ll definitely have to check out the Traverse when we start car shopping!
I’m holding out as long as possible too!
