I’m not going to tell you an amazing weight loss story here folks. Instead, I’m going to talk about how to kickstart healthy living and how little changes can go a long way and make a BIG difference in the way we all look and feel about ourselves.
It’s not really about weight either, BUT I must say, watching that number dip and drop ever so gradually over the last fourteen days has really knocked some sense into me.
I wasn’t really overweight to begin with and my BMI was at the top end of exactly where it should be, but I still wanted to do this. I wanted to this because I was using breastfeeding as an excuse to eat anything and everything I wanted. It was beginning to catch up with me. I seemed to start gaining weight the minute Andrew began sleeping through the night. Bless his little cotton socks.
And if it weren’t for winning a free month’s worth of food at Mom 2.0 last year, I wouldn’t even have dreamed of doing this. I didn’t even know we had Jenny Craig center’s near here! But we do. I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment for my initial meeting with my consultant and we made a plan. She asked me, “At what weight do you remember looking and feeling fabulous?” I told her 150 lbs. That’s where I want to be. She also asked me what motivated me. My answers: my kids, my health, clothes, looking and feeling good, and the good weather that’s just around the corner. We talked about my need for 1800 calories per day since I’m a nursing mom and we built a weekly meal plan. It was so easy. I was weighed and measured and my food was brought out and I was ready to do this. Every single meal – ready to go – for an entire week. And she didn’t forget the dessert!
I could go on and on about the convenience of the Jenny Craig meals and how DELISH they are. The variety is amazing and so is the taste. I can’t get enough of the sesame chicken and the mac and cheese – two of my favorites! And let’s not leave out the cinnamon rolls and key lime pie!!!!
I’ve made some lifestyle changes that weren’t easy at first. But now I don’t miss my old ways. I really like how I’m feeling.
- I’ve completely cut out soda. I used to be a big Diet Coke girl. I haven’t had a soda in 14 days.
- You don’t have to deprive yourself. I can still have my coffee (with my CoffeeMate, I might add!)
- I’m eating lightly every three hours.
- My portions are smaller. Yes, the Jenny meals are way smaller than what I’m used to having at dinner, but it’s OK because they are delicious and I substitute my bigger entree with more GREENS.
- I’m eating tons of salad.
- I’m eating tons of yogurt.
- I’m eating tons of fruit.
- I stopped grazing and digging through the pantry.
- I NEVER skip lunch.
- I can still go out to eat – I just have to make smarter choices.
- I can still have my glass of wine. I put ice in it to make it last.
I’m a more informed eater. I’m counting calories, watching my sugar intake and drinking TONS OF WATER. I’m dying to get back to the gym too, but that hasn’t happened yet due to the MAN COLD we’ve all had here at the Stow house. But soon enough, I’ll be on that treadmill. Besides, I’ve got a 5K to sign up for.
Today I saw the number 154.2 and dared to put on a really old favorite pair of jeans from my bottom drawer and I could button them!!! I’m really doing this. I’m making healthier choices and changing the way I think about food. Thank you Jenny. I never thought I had the will power to say no to Girl Scout Cookies. All four boxes are just about gone and this girl never even had a Thin Mint.
I’m excited to see what happens in the next couple of weeks. I think I’m on a really great path to accomplishing something big. Feel free to join me in getting fit and making better choices. I’d love to have you along for the ride!
