We stumbled upon this gem of a playground this past weekend after hearing about a new one in Norfolk, MA on Facebook! We thought maybe a renovation had been made to the Kid’s Place Playground on Boardman St., but no! The Boardman St. playground was all blocked off and closed, so we decided to continue up the road. Sure enough, about thirty seconds later, Emily shouted out, “There it is!” We found the new playground just up the street from Boardman after taking a left onto Rockwood Road at the four way intersection. SCORE!
I think I may have been more excited than the kids when we found this place. It is brand spanking new, only open now for about three or four weeks. All the play structures are clean and new, the ground is made up of a soft, squishy turf-like material so kids won’t get hurt and the entire play area is fenced in. It also has a bathroom (portapotty style, but also new – didn’t venture in because, well, it’s still a portapotty) and real grassy hills for running and playing. There are also three large picnic tables that are perfect for a picnic lunch!
The playground is well-suited for the younger ones, with a school house/grange structure, a firetruck structure and awesome swings. Emily (age 8) had fun because it was new and interesting, but there’s not really a lot for older kids to play on besides the swings. The sandbox is big and suped up with two awesome metal diggers. There’s also a cool plastic merry-go-round and some fun wobbly cars.
Check it out soon if you can. The only downside about the playground is a lack of shade. It gets SUPER hot in the later part of the morning and afternoon since there are no trees close enough to provide any natural cover. The equipment can get really hot. One mom had brought a beach towel for her child to safely get down the slide – I thought that was a really clever idea!
I really wish we had a playground as fun as this one in our town. Thankfully, it’s not too far away and I met lots of moms and dads there from surrounding towns like Franklin, Medfield, Walpole, Foxborough, and Wrentham. I hear there’s a new one in Franklin too – must check that one out next! For now, I’ll see you at Kids Place!
