After months and months of rescheduling, the Stow Kids’ visit to the dentist finally happened this week. Taking three kids to the dentist at once calls for a long stay, but it’s what we are used to. We like to get it all over with in one go and I like the way they support each other. The boys are known to get a bit apprehensive when dentist day arrives. (I have no idea where they get it from.) At Aidan’s last visit, he had to have his very first filling, in a baby tooth nonetheless, and it killed me. He was a total trooper and it didn’t even phase him – drilled without any novocaine at age 6! Anyone else have any lazy brushers in their family? Aidan wins that award here.
Well someone must have been praying for us on Wednesday between 2 and 4pm because we had an amazing visit to the dentist. Everyone cooperated and sat up in that chair without a hitch. They even earned themselves two prizes each from the prize drawer.
The bigs have been swishing with Listerine for months and it’s now totally a part of their routine each morning and night. No matter how lazy the brushing may be, I have confidence in Listerine. It’s killing our family’s germs and bacteria. Thank you for a cavity-free visit to the dentist, Listerine.
Between end of year parties, graduations, celebrations, Father’s Day and the boys’ birthdays, it sure is crazy every which way you look. I’m sure you’re feeling it too. Teacher gifts, field days, dance recitals, parades – it’s pretty darn nuts. Some nights I’m thinking I should just climb a tree and stay up there until after July 4th or so.
Don’t forget to visit your local Walgreens so you and your family are totally taken care of all summer long! You can find LISTERINE® TOTAL CARE, LISTERINE® TOTAL CARE ZERO and LISTERINE® SMART RINSE® at Walgreens too!
It’s a complete mouthwash that does a lot in one simple rinse:
- Helps prevent cavities
- Restores enamel
- Strengthens teeth
- Kills bad breath germs
- Cleans the whole mouth
- Freshens breath
I’m taking lots of deep breaths and realizing that the end of year crazies will all be over in no time. Perhaps we should even enjoy it. We’ll have our feet in the sand and we’ll be wading in pools, splashing in the ocean on Cape Cod and building sand castles soon enough.
In the meantime, I need to share this yummy recipe for Shrimp Salad with Green Onion and Goat Cheese Dressing. It’s one of my favorite summertime salads and it’s healthy. It’s totally refreshing and different than a boring old garden salad. I love when salad is the entire meal.
Ingredients for Dressing:
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup crumbled soft goat cheese
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 teaspoons lemon zest
juice from 1/2 lemon
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
2 tablespoons chopped fresh green onions
salt and pepper to taste
For Salad:
18- 24 large shrimp (about a pound)
8 ounces fresh arugula
lemon slices to garnish
This salad is so good. I really hope you try the recipe. What are some of your favorite go-to summer recipes? We’d love a link to it! Have a wonderful start to your summer and we hope you’re totally taken care of too!

I have never tried shrimp.
Perhaps it’s because we had a salt water tank and watching them shuttle about in my tank just turned down me off of eating them. Lol. The salad looks like it would be so delicious I might have to try it. 🙂
I don’t eat nearly enough shrimp! I always forget about including it in meals. This is a great way to do it!

Congrats on a successful trip to the dentist office! It’s amazing how something like dental hygiene can excite you so much when you’re an adult. Way to go, kids (and mom)! Also, I love anything with goat cheese, so that recipe sounds delicious!

We are a Listerine family also and fortunately my adults sons do not have any cavities and they are both in their 30s. I can’t say the same for myself. Your salad looks delicious and the perfect thing to serve to guests.

Like you, I head to the dentist with three kids in tow and it makes for long appointments! Our dentist has a prize tower and hands out tokens to exceptional patients. This is such a convincing tactic for my kiddos! lol

That first trip to the dentist can be a little scary, I know. But, it is well worth it for the care of your teeth. Plus, when I am done at the dentist’s office, I leave with a very confident smile!
That’s the perfect recipe for summertime entertaining. I’ve got some big shrimp fans in the house too, let me tell you!
We also hit the dentist the first week of summer to get it over with! Pinning that shrimp salad for later yum!

We’ve been lucky enough that my kids love going to the dentist. They’ve only ever been for cleanings so it’s been pretty easy!

Is it weird that I’m totally freaked out by just the thought of going to the dentist but LOVE to get my teeth cleaned??
The shrimp salad sounds delish!
As a mom of 5 I have come to realize that some kids are just prone to cavities, lazy brushers or not. My BEST brusher actually has had the most cavities because she has soft teeth…its just genetics.

I hope that my kids can be that well behaved with our next visit to the dentist. I can’t believe your six year old sat through a filling without Novocaine! Did they give any alternative pain relief for that, or even gas? I am such a wimp when it comes to pain, just the thought of a filling without Novocaine is making me clench my jaw tightly closed.
